To My Correspondents: Please read these notes carefully before writing to me, as it will save you trouble and me pain. Also, if you have a question for me, please read the website biography and interview before writing to me, since it may have already been answered there. If you have sent me email and not received a reply, it is because you are among an alarming number of people who (a) don't know their email return address; (b) can't spell their email return address; (c) don't have an email return address; or (d) have not properly installed an email address in the return address slot of the email software being used. It would be very helpful, not just to me, but to everyone you email, if you would set up your software properly. Please do not send me attachments as these often contain viruses, and I never open them. And please do not add me to your mailing lists for jokes, contributions, prayers, chain letters, political statements or anything else. If you wish to point out typographical or other
errors in a book published by Putnam, you may write to: Rachel.Kahan@us.penguingroup.com Those with invitations to events should email them to me at stuart@stuartwoods.com. Those ambitious folk who wish to buy film, dramatic
or television rights to my books should contact: Those who wish to conduct business of a more literary nature should contact Anne Sibbald at: asibbald@janklow.com. (This is not an invitation for you to send her your manuscript or to solicit her to be your agent.) If you wish me to do a book signing in your locality, you should ask your favorite bookseller to contact his Putnam representative and make the request, or to contact Michael.Barson@us.penguingroup.com . This is proper protocol in publishing. I don't choose the bookstores, or even have much influence over which are chosen. If you wish to attend a book signing, the schedule for each book tour is posted on my web site during the month before the book is published. If you want a personalized, autographed copy of the new book, you may call any one of the bookstores, order a copy, I will sign it, and it will be mailed to you. I always sign extra stock, so stores will have autographed copies, even after the signing. I'm sorry, but you can't send me your books to be signed; that would drive me crazy. All of my novels are still in print, in paperback, and can be ordered from any bookstore. If you wish to obtain hardcover copies of my earlier novels or my out-of-print non-fiction books, you should find a good used bookstore. Many of these can do a national search for the titles. Or you can order them from bn.com or amazon.com or find them on eBay. Do not complain to me, if they are expensive; it is cheaper to buy them in hardcover when they are new. If you wish to buy a copy of my elderly guidebook, A Romantic's Guide to the Country Inns of Britain and Ireland, you will have to go to a great many garage sales. Good news for those who want a hardback copy of Chiefs: W.W. Norton will publish a 25th anniversary replica of the first edition in March, 2006! All of my novels have been published in large type and recorded on audio tape, in both abridged and unabridged forms. Any bookstore can order any of them, if they are not already in stock. I don't choose the readers, so if you wish to complain about their performances, please do so directly to the audio company. I am told that videotapes of the TV mini-series of Chiefs and Grass Roots can be ordered from Blockbuster, but I cannot swear that this is so, and I do not know where else you might find them, except possibly eBay. If you wish to have your own novel published, get a book called Writers Market, which will tell you how. You may buy or order it from any bookstore. I cannot read your novel or help you to get it published, and if you are publishing a novel and want jacket blurbs from other writers, you should not ask them directly, but allow your publisher to do so. This is proper publishing etiquette. Please do not send me ideas for books. If you have a great idea for a novel, write it yourself. I prefer to write novels based on my own ideas and do not accept ideas from other people, except my agents or publishers. If you wish to see a list of all my novels and books, look in the front of the most recent novel, where you will find them, listed in reverse chronological order, or you may see them under Past Books on the website. I regret that, in some paperback editions, the books are not chronologically listed. **Before you ask me questions about my work or myself, please read the website biography and, particularly, the interview, which is made up of questions emailed to me by readers. Your question may very well be answered there. Now that you have digested all that, I would love to hear from you! Thanks for your patience, Stuart Woods Click Here to Send Stuart an E-Mail |
